Tilman Hoppstock (*1961) konzertierte zum ersten Mal vor großem Publikum im Jahre 1975 in den Sälen der Staatstheater Wiesbaden und Kassel. Sein Musikstudium als Gitarrist und Cellist begann er im Alter von 16 Jahren zunächst mit dem festen Berufsziel, Musikschullehrer zu werden. Parallel hierzu kristallisierte sich jedoch ein weiterer Weg heraus und direkt nach dem Examen, das er als 20-jähriger ablegte, schlossen sich Konzerte mit ausgedehnten Reisen rund um den Globus mit Auftritten in London, Paris, New York, Montreal, Tokyo, Mexiko City, Singapore und vielen anderen Millionenmetropolen an. Mit 24 Jahren - nach rund 250 Konzerten als Solist und Kammermusiker - legte er eine 11-jährige Pause vom Konzertleben ein und fokussierte seine ganze Energie auf die Arbeit im Plattenstudio. So entstanden 10 CD-Produktionen, die 1996 den Grundstein für den Weg zurück auf die Konzertbühne bildeten (inzwischen gibt es rund 40 Tonträger von T. Hoppstock). Die Passion für das Unterrichten hat er sich in all den Jahren bewahrt, sodass die Arbeit mit Studenten aus allen Teilen der Welt an der Akademie für Tonkunst einen wichtigen Bestandteil seiner Tätigkeit ausmacht. Die Auseinandersetzung mit der Musik Bachs und dem Liedschaffen Schuberts führte zu international anerkannten Publikationen. Als letztes Großprojekt hat er zusammen mit Olaf v. Gonnissen das Gesamtwerk John Dowlands in Transkription für Gitarre herausgegeben. Darüber hinaus gelten seine drei Bücher über die Lautenwerke Bachs als Standardliteratur für Lautenisten und Gitarristen. 2014 promovierte er zum Dr. phil., im Jahr zuvor erhielt er für sein künstlerisches Lebenswerk den Darmstädter Musikpreis. Neben der Musik interessiert sich Tilman für Kunst und ist ein ausgewiesener Kenner französischer Rotweine. Außerdem liest er gerne schwedische Kriminalromane sowie die Werke Dostojewskis und hat ein Faible für Enten.

Tilman Hoppstock (*1961) gave his first concert in front of a large audience in 1975 in the halls of the Wiesbaden and Kassel state theatres. He began his music studies as a guitarist and cellist at the age of 16, initially with the firm career goal of becoming a music school teacher. At the same time, however, another path crystallised and immediately after his exams, which he passed at the age of 20, concerts followed with extensive travels around the globe with performances in London, Paris, New York, Montreal, Tokyo, Mexico City, Singapore and many other metropolises with millions of inhabitants. At the age of 24 - after around 250 concerts as a soloist and chamber musician - he took an 11-year break from concert life and focussed all his energy on working in the recording studio. This resulted in 10 CD productions, which laid the foundation for his return to the concert stage in 1996 (there are now around 40 recordings by T. Hoppstock). He has retained his passion for teaching over the years, so that working with students from all over the world at the Akademie für Tonkunst is an important part of his work. His exploration of Bach's music and Schubert's lieder has led to internationally recognised publications.His most recent major project was the publication of John Dowland's complete works in transcription for guitar together with Olaf v. Gonnissen.In addition, his three books on Bach's lute works are regarded as standard literature for lutenists and guitarists.He received his doctorate in 2014 and the year before was awarded the Darmstadt Music Prize for his artistic life's work.In addition to music, Tilman is interested in art and is a recognised connoisseur of French red wines.He also enjoys reading Swedish crime novels and the works of Dostoyevsky and has a soft spot for ducks.
